Kelsea Ballerini is giving fans another taste of her new album, Subject To Change, with the release of her new song, “What I Have.”

The country superstar is counting her blessings in her just-released new song “What I Have,” which arrives just days after Ballerini took to social media to announce that she is divorcing from Morgan Evans.

The new song, which was co-written by Ballerini alongside Cary Barlowe and Alysa Vanderheym, finds the singer counting her blessings while coming to realization that “you don’t got to shine to be gold” and being happy with all that she has in her life.

“‘Cause I got a roof over my head / I got a warm body in bed / I’m doin’ alright right where I’m at / With what I have,” Ballerini sings on the song’s chorus before going into verse two. “I bought the shoes where the bottom is red / But who the hell am I tryin’ to impress? / When you sit back, that’s when you notice / The Joneses can’t even keep up with the Joneses / I know, don’t gotta shine to be gold.”

Ballerini first debuted the track during a performance at the Grand Ole Opry earlier this year in January, which earned a standing ovation.

Joined by a guitarist, Ballerini performed the relatable track while donning a pastel floral dress.

During that same Opry performance, Ballerini shared that her upcoming new album, Subject To Change, will have an overall theme of coming to realization that sometimes the little things in life are the most important.

“I think one of themes that I am finding is what I think probably a lot of us have found in the last couple of years as we kind of been forced to step back and look at our lives and have a lot of time to do that,” the pop-country hitmaker said at the time. “It’s made you look at what you have differently and for me, I’ve started to really appreciate the little things in life a lot more.”

Arriving on September 23, Ballerini’s fifth studio album, Subject To Change, will feature 15-tracks, including “Little Things,” “Love Is A Cowboy,” as well as the project’s lead single “Heartfirst.”

“In my younger years, the idea of change scared me. It had proven to be a faceless force that patterned my past with uncertainty. Only in the gift of growth have I learned that in the stark and constant juxtaposition of life, living happens,” she previously explained of the project on Instagram. “That when I unclench my fists, undig my heels and unravel the architecture built by youth, a true metamorphosis can happen.”

She continued, “I’ve been searching somewhere between the broadness of the universe and the simplicity in the little things, reflecting through wiser perspectives, leaning with body weight into matters of the heart, and finding blissful acceptance in the inner cracks I once cursed that now let the light in to grow taller within myself. This is a season of becoming, healing, loving, dancing, and feeling. And like everything, it is subject to change.”

Subject To Change marks the country hitmaker’s first full-length project since the release of her companion albums kelsea and ballerini in 2020.
