A former Twitter employee has vowed to sue the social media giant after she was fired while six months pregnant – despite Musk announcing that culled employees would be paid until the end of January.

Shennan Lu worked as a data science executive at Twitter before being fired Friday along with thousands of other employees as new CEO Musk continues his overhaul of the tech company.

Lu took to the social media platform to express her frustration with the company’s handling of the situation, accusing it of discrimination and vowing to fight in court.

The series of tweets and her account have since been deleted — and it’s unclear if she will actually go ahead and sue the billionaire’s company for discrimination.

After the company laid off about 50 percent of Twitter’s workforce on Friday following its $44 billion acquisition of Musk, the company has reportedly approached dozens of employees to get back to work.

The company still has about 3,700 employees. The remaining ones are being pushed by Musk to work quickly to develop and implement new features.

In the now-deleted tweets, according to InsiderLu wrote: ‘My Twitter adventure has come to an end, I was fired while I was 6 months pregnant.

“It was a pleasure working with all of you. I am very grateful to lead such a great one [data science] team, it was a fun ride. #LoveWhereYouWorked.’

‘There is certainly discrimination here. So I will fight. My performance has improved in recent quarters (top 30%), and I’m sure other male managers have not received this rating,” Lu added. “See you in court.”

Lu has been working at Twitter since last January and before that at Facebook parent Meta and Comcast, according to her LinkedIn page.

Lu isn’t the only pregnant worker to be fired in the round of mass layoffs.

Rachel Bonn, a former marketing executive at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters who is eight months pregnant, announced that she had been fired and no longer had access to her laptop.

Five former employees have filed a class-action lawsuit alleging the layoffs violate California and federal law, Insider reported.

Those out of a job were told they will remain employed by Twitter until January or February 2, depending on their position, although November 4 will be their last day of work.

After the mass layoffs, Musk defended his decision by saying he had no choice but to cut spending due to Twitter’s financial situation.

“As for the diminution of Twitter’s power, unfortunately there is no choice when the company loses more than $4 million a day,” Musk tweeted. “Everyone who left was offered a 3-month layoff, which is 50 percent more than required by law.”

Musk has previously hinted at a determination to restore the company’s financial health, which would almost certainly involve massive layoffs.

There have been reports of employees sleeping in the office — something Musk himself does — to meet freshly imposed deadlines.

Over the weekend, Twitter rolled out the new Twitter Blue plan, which offers the verification check to any user willing to pay more than $8 per month.

The company said — largely through Musk’s personal account — that it will soon be launching additional new features, including fewer ads, the ability to post longer videos, and a feature that allows users to prioritize replies, mentions, and searches.

In the course of his acquisition, Musk almost immediately dissolved Twitter’s board of directors upon purchasing the company, leaving Dorsey one of the few stakeholders with ties to the previous leadership.
