San Antonio Brahmas Finalize 51-Man Roster

The San Antonio Brahmas can officially focus their attention on the St. Louis BattleHawks. After deliberating over roster decisions all week, the team has finalized their initial 51-man roster.

Nothing is truly final in sports. Football, like all other sports, is fluid. As injuries pile up and players begin to show what they have on the field, things will change. However, this is the roster San Antonio takes into the 2023 season for now.

Brahmas head coach Hines Ward released a statement regarding the finalization of the roster via a press release. “The 51-strong is what I call them,” Ward said. “We had a tremendous training camp. I can’t wait to get going with this group of guys. The 51 we selected will give San Antonio fans something to be proud of as we bring professional football back to this great city.”

The Brahmas are carrying three players on their reserves list. Those players are running back Calvin Turner, defensive back Gavin Robertson, and defensive lineman Julian McCleod. With no further ado, here is the 2023 San Antonio Brahmas roster:

Offense

Quarterbacks: Jack Coan, Jawon Pass, Reid Sinnett

Running Backs: Kalen Ballage, Jon Hillman, Jacques Patrick

Tight Ends: Ben Beise, Alize Mack, Jamal Pettigrew, Deon Yelder

Offensive Guards: Roubbens Joseph, Damien Mama, Jordan McCray

Special Teams:

Long Snapper: Rex Sunahara

Final Cuts

The Brahmas active roster sat at 56 on Tuesday, with Thursday being the deadline to get the roster down to 51. Turner’s placement on the reserve list cut the roster to 55. With that in mind, here were the final players released from the roster in San Antonio’s cutdown process:

  • TE DeAndre Goolsby
  • WR Dai’Jean Dixon
  • OT Marcus Tatum
  • DB Stephen Denmark

Inital Thoughts

The Brahmas entered training camp with a team bursting with potential. Coming out of training camp, the team still bursts with potential.

The quarterback room is an interesting one. All three of these quarterbacks are relatively young. Reid Sinnett is the oldest of the group at 26 years old, while 24-year-old Jack Coan is the youngest. The team can go in any direction they please at the quarterback spot.

The Brahmas feature a very promising running-back duo. Jacques Patrick figures to play a prominent role, and Kalen Ballage brings legit NFL experience to the position. Look for this duo to play a big part in offensive coordinator Jaime Elizondo’s unit.

The Brahmas have solid offensive and defensive lines as well. But their linebackers and defensive backs may be the heart and soul of this team.

Linebacker Joel Dublanko starred for the Cincinnati Bearcats team that made the College Football Playoff in 2021. Riko Jeffers was a standout for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and a team captain his final safety.

For defensive backs, the standout is Navy graduate Sean Williams Jr. He finally joined the team after receiving temporary approval from the United States Military. And he is a baller, having a successful football career at Navy while being a leader on and off the field.

As said before, football is fluid. Things will change as the eight XFL teams begin to separate themselves from contenders and pretenders. However, the word of the day for Hines Ward’s San Antonio Brahmas is potential. If this groups plays to that potential, it could yield great results for the Brahmas.
