When it comes to comic book projects, actress Margot Robbie is known for playing the iconic DC character Harley Quinn. Robbie’s Harley Quinn made her onscreen debut in the 2016 David Ayer-directed Suicide Squad, which featured other characters from the source material such as Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and the Joker. While Robbie is already entrenched in the DC world, that doesn’t mean the actress can’t make the jump to the Marvel Universe one day. Someone on Instagram seemed to already have an idea of who the actress would play as their fan art shows Margot Robbie as the X-Men character Mystique:

The fan art reveals Margot Robbie in the classic Mystique white attire she wears in the comics. The golden bones wrapped around her waist were pouches. Mystique often carried small weapons and other devices to even the odds during battles. Of course, the fan art includes the iconic red hair and blue skin, which was prevalent in the early X-Men films. The character’s original costume was designed by comic artist Dave Cockrum, who also co-created the designs for Nightcrawler, Storm, Colossus, and the Spider-Man character Black Cat. Robbie’s Mystique has a sexy, slender physique which was also a staple in the comics. Fans can see the hint of yellow in the actress’s eyes, along with the iconic blue skin and red hair.

Writer Chris Claremont helped co-create the character in the 1970s. She first appeared in Ms. Marvel #16 and has been an antihero and foe in the X-Men comic series. Margot Robbie’s Mystique draws somewhat similar comparisons to the depiction of the character used in Bryan Singer’s X-Men. Actress Rebecca Romijn played the character in the early Singer films, and she focused more on the mischievousness and sexiness rather than the hint of heroism that was present in the comics. Just in the fan art alone, Robbie’s Mystique doesn’t look to be someone the X-Men would trust. The slight smirk and the confident stance show a bit of intelligence hidden underneath those yellow eyes and blue skin.

One has to wonder if Margot Robbie’s Mystique would also have the same qualities as her Harley Quinn character from DC. The character showcased not just her sex appeal but also her cunning. Robbie’s Quinn had more similarities to the character depicted in the popular Harley Quinn series on HBO Max rather than in the original Batman: The Animated Series. Interestingly, both Quinn and Mystique have worked for famous male supervillains.

Margot Robbie playing Mystique could be something fans of the comic series would appreciate, especially if it’s comics accurate. So far, MCU president Kevin Feige has yet to reveal when the X-Men will appear. However, there have already been hints of mutants in the MCU, most notably in Ms. Marvel. There was also the appearance of Patrick Stewart as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Although mutants weren’t teased during Marvel’s comic-con presentation last month, fans know that the X-Men will appear at some point. It’s just a matter of when.
