So this is less of a post and more an attempt to build a page where we can all redirect or find material on what Gerard has actually said in regards to his gender. A collective page of info and screencaps. Of course I will try to keep this as updated as possible, as soon as any more information comes out.

Again this is purely for the sake of information and irrelevant to my own opinion or anyone elses. If I’m missing anything or if anyone has any input on sources, please let me know. All that being said, please read under the cut!

He prefers “He/They” pronouns, but has said that he doesn’t really care what pronouns you call him:

He has always felt like he identifies “a fair amount with the female gender” and that masculinity always made him feel like it “wasn’t right” for him:

A Kerrang interview was later released, where they asked Gerard if he struggled with gender. Theres a picture of the article online, but its relatively hard to read (I do have it saved if anyone wants it). So I’ll just type it out:

HAVE YOU EVER STRUGGLED WITH GENDER?

“No. I had at times been maybe a little confused, like a little gender confused when I was a boy, even into my teen years, but I’d always really identified as male.”

Many people use this as the official confirmation that Gerard identifies as male. However in response to the posted image of the article, Gerard responded with:

(Note: Not sure if this is meant to mean that Kerrang twisted/changed his words in any sense. I found both his response and the fact that he had not read the thing until a fan provided him with an image rather odd. It also might be worth noting that Kerrang is not known to be the most reliable of sources. )

There was also an interview he did with a magazine called theboyzine, although it seems to have been since deleted. A quote from said interview is still documented on Gerard’s wikipedia page however. I tried inserting the screencap but the text was suuuuper tiny so I’ll just type it out as well (and you can read it here at the bottom of the Personal Life section):

“I never really subscribed to the archetype masculinity growing up, I had no interest in sports or anything like that. There was a time when I was called a girl so often that when I discovered the idea of transgenderism I considered myself to be more of a girl. So I identify with trans people and women a lot because I was a girl to a lot of people growing up.”

(Note: I feel as though I’ve heard some things about theboyzine’s credibility as well, although I don’t recall what or if it was anything negative, neutral, or positive. So if anyone has any input on that they can message me. While I would still leave this here, just like with Kerrangs quote, I do feel its important to understand the source of information as well as the information itself.)

Whatever his own identity, he’s talked about trans’ rights and shown support of transgender kids and allies quite a lot within the past months:

And while I realize I said I’d keep my own opinion aside, I will say that his identity is his own business, and while he has not given us a really definitive answer, it’s not exactly something that he owes to the public.
