God has such amazing timing. Here I am, at 54, just a year shy of going into remission from colon cancer and wrestling with what’s next for me. Then, I receive an email with the opportunity to review It’s Never Too Late by Kathie Lee Gifford.

The book is about letting go of “what hold us back so we can embrace what lies ahead”. When you are eager for a change; hearing God’s calling in your life.

After surviving cancer, I’ve been really praying and wondering what my true purpose is at this stage of my life. The timing of this book could not have. been better. Only God.

It’s Never Too Late

The book features the author, the iconic Kathie Lee Gifford, on the cover, relaxing on a cushy couch. The “call out box” (or circle, in this case) reads “Make the Next Act of Your Life The Best Act of Your Life”. The foreward was written by Dolly Parton!

Immediately, I read a poem by Ms. Gifford, which struck a chord in me. Here’s an excerpt:

I need to make a change in my life

To rearrange what’s left of the rest of my life

I’ve been living far too long in this dusty old room

I need to plant a dream…I need to watch it bloom

I need to make a choice in my life

Surrender to the voice I’ve ignored all my life

Kathie Lee shares personal stories of her life and encourages the reader to rely on our Father in heaven to take a leap, dream big and never think that it’s too late for your next chapter.

The writing is beautifully composed, yet easy to read. It is heartbreaking and inspiring. Full of darkness and more importantly, light.

In It’s Never Too Late Kathie Lee pulls back the curtain to share that the spotlight isn’t always shining and when it does, the smiles we see are not always true to self.

Although we read of dark days in Kathie Lee’s life, we are inspired by her faith and her “realness”. Her rawness. I found myself cheering for her and wondering, “could I really do this?”. Kathie Lee’s message was a resounding “yes!”.

Kathie Lee has never shied away from declaring that the Lord is her Savior.

Years after the passing of her beloved husband, Frank Gifford, she still gushes about him. The love they shared was beautiful.

Each chapter, filled with stories of Kathie Lee’s life and career, ends with an exhortation that it is never too late. For example, at the end of the chapter where Kathie Lee shares about her humiliating experience on the Dinah Shore Show and her friendship with Larry Gatlin, who, at the time, had a terrible drug problem, she finishes with:

“Redemption is available for everyone but it is only effective when it’s embraced. One day it will be too late. Until then, seek it out. It’s there for the asking.”

Reading somewhat like an autobiography and somewhat like a self-help book, It’s Never Too Late, is an encouraging read. Especially for those who are wondering “what’s next?” or “is it too late to chase this dream?”.
